Leningradsky prospect
The Leningradsky prospect is one of the main transport highways and the widest street in Moscow (to 120 m).
The Leningradsky prospect begins from the Belarusky station as continuation of 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya street, goes on the northwest and finishes after crossing with streets Alabyana and Baltiiskaya, at a high building of institute "Hydroproject" where this highway is divided into the Leningradsky shosse and Volokolamsky shosse. After a fork with Volokolamsky shosse continuation of the Leningradsky prospect is the Leningradsky shosse which is passing near to the airport of the Sheremetyevo.
The most known and demanded area nearby to the Leningradsky prospect is the area around metro station Sokol (the Falcon) and the settlement with the same name more known by the name Compound of Artists as all streets are named in honour of the well-known Russian artists.
Each street of compound is set by certain breed of trees. So, in the street Surikova lindens grow, in the street Bryullov – red maples, in the street Shishkin – ash-trees.
The settlement "Sokol" has appeared in the early twenties the last century and initially intended for capital intellectual elite. Originally building was planned in Sokolniki area. That is why the corresponding name was chosed, and an emblem – the falcon holding in a beak a small house. However the settlement was put in 1923 to the northwest from Moscow, by villages near Vsehsvjatsky. Compound was finished in 1930.
The metro station "Sokol" was opened in September , 1938 and received the name of Compound.
The area of the Falcon is a surprising example of independent, complete and self-sufficient city structure outside of the Garden ring.
Something similar in the capital can be found only in Sokolniki and University area.
Quarters of quality "Stalin" architecture very harmoniously look in environment of greens of numerous parks and parkways. In all style is felt: well-disposed ranks of high windows, decorated facades with huge arches, spacious court yard. Many houses also were erected on the co-operative beginnings that meant the defined status and an accessory of the future tenants: representatives of intelligence: doctors, scientific, artists, teachers. Some houses have been built specially for the Central Committee device and army generals. Certainly this social layer should live is spacious, is quiet and with all possible conveniences. This basic architecturally-social idea without changes was saved up to now.
Area between Novopeschanaya street and the Peschany lane is a continuous park zone.
In the late forties here the cosy four-storey buildings with convenient big court yards were built, and in the middle-fifties - decorated big houses with bleached balconies, lifts, high ceilings and other attributes of the real estate for Ministry’s workers.
During the last years the elite complexes and "business class" houses were constructed in Sokol area, including the highest residential building in Europe "Triumph-Palace" with the huge fenced territory, children's small town, the fitness centre, a beauty salon, an underground parking.
There are three well-known specialized schools with deep learning of foreign languages, including the famous school ¹1252 of Cervantes ( Spanish language) in this area.
