Prospect Mira

Prospect Mira begins from the Garden ring in the the Sukharevskaya square,

dividing the area with the same name practically on two equal parts.

 From the East the area it is limited  by Olympiyskiy prospect, from the West by Academician Sakharov, Panteleevskaya and Kalanchevskaya streets.

Officially this  is a part of the Meschansky district, received the name  by Meschansky compound ( settlement), which was settled in the beginning of the present prospect Mira and Giljarovsky street (earlier 1 th and 2nd Meschanskie ).

Its history begins in the second half of XVII century when as a result of the Russian-Polish war in Moscow a lot of captives appeared and they settled in the special large compound with name Meschansky, from the Polish word mieszczanin, i.e. townspeople.

 Inhabitants of  the settlement were engaged in various crafts and trade. The considerable quantity of   residents  were engaged in gold and silver business,  and also representatives of free trades - actors, painters, the singers who were taking part in "funs" of Tsar Alexey Mihajlovich.

Nowadays  the area features by mixture of different styles. There are moldings of  merchant’s mansions and private residences, both heavy facades and Soviet period bas-reliefs, modern elite complexes and houses of Brezhnev's times.

Especially it is evident near the  Olympiysky center, where on the tiny place there are  the orthodox church and a mosque, modern business centre, an elegant private residence of construction of the last century, as well as round building of above mentioned sport complex.

And if you are not so lazy to walk and will reach narrow street Troitskaya in the award for your curiosity and persistence the area will give you one more surprise. Behind standard brick "ant hill" of a Soviet period you will find two charming wooden small houses, with carved shutters, fresh painted roofs and fence.

The new modern developments were built here not by chance.

 In spite of the fact that the Prospect Mira was and remains a noisy highway, numerous lanes in its vicinities are silent and green. Even duplicating the basic highway  Gilyarovskaya street and the Olympiyskiy prospect save also the spirit of quiet lanes.

Do not forget  about existence of the small Botanical garden and a well-groomed Ekaterina's garden.

Here you will find numerous shops, sports shops, cafe, restaurants («the Caucasian captive», IL-Patio, club "Cucumber"), the game centers, banks, drugstores and tourist agencies.

 Do not forget  about largest book fair, children's developing centre "LANA", fitness centre “World Class”, tennis courts, a skating rink and pool in sport centre "Olympiyskiy".
