Taganka

The Tagansky district lies to the West of Zamoskvorechie between the Boulevard and Garden ring, overlapping  to Andronievskaya street and  Proletarskaya metro station.
It got its name after the settlements of smiths specializing in making so called tagans, i.e. devices for securing big pots above fire for cooking. Those who made big pots, Kotly also lived near by that’s why we find enough relevance to the trade in street names: Taganskaya street, Kotelnicheskya embankment and lanes and others.
Famous silver masters settlement was also blooming here in XV-th century (Serebryanicheskaya embankment and lane). Later the land became a settlement for rich Moscow merchants.
Today this area is full of office buildings and business centers. Residentially this district is full of Stalin era sound quality buildings as well as with less attractive but cheaper buildings of 1970s epoch, which are mainly located farther outwards from the Garden Ring. Recently some new business-class and elite developments started to grow here as well.
The area is ideal for those who works near-by, especially with the new transport junction, and also for the families with children, as there are many parks and nice embankments are there to walk around, and also some very good specialized schools, including famous private school “Sotrudnichestvo” (Co-operation).
The area is famous by the legendary Theatre on Taganka, the place near Taganskaya metro has truly become a cult place for many theatre masters, so the area is filled with theatre life.
Hence the residential sky scrapper of Stalin epoch, the one on Kotelnicheskaya embankment was occupied by the famous actors and producers, the legacy it holds till now. In spite of that many newly  developments were built around, the sky-scrapper is still very popular if  you’re looking for breathtaking views on the Kremlin, Zamoskvorechie, Moscow-river and Kitai-gorod parts of the city centre.
There  are a lot of restaurants and café, different shops, trade center “Zvezdochka”, sport clubs, cinema theaters in the district.
Among the historical  sights we should mention the famous Aphonskoye Podvtie with amazing church of Saint Nikita, Novospassky  and Svyato-Pokrovsky Monastery (Cloister).
