Transport
Moscow is the big transport junction.
There are 9 main railway stations inside the city, 4 airports around, 2 river stations.
Metro and overland transport works to carry citizens and Moscow guests.
The Metro - The Moscow Metro is a city attraction and also the easiest and most reliable way to get around the city. Radial lines, which cut across the city in most directions, are joined together by a circular line. Now there are 12 basic lines, on which more than 170 stations are located, and total extension of lines is around 300 km.
Each line has its own name and color on the metro map (there are such maps in every car). The name of every station is announced by a loudspeaker in the car. When the train starts, the loudspeaker announces the next stop.
Moscow’s metro stations called the “underground palaces” of Moscow are another attraction of the city.
One ride costs 22 rubles no matter how long it is and how many transfers you make. Magnetic cards of various value are available at the cashier at every station. There are international telephones in the metro that use magnetic cards, which you can also get at the cashier. The city phones use magnetic cards too. The metro opens at 5:30-6 am; the entrances and the passages between the lines close at 1 am.
Municipal surface transport - City buses, trolleybuses and trams: The fare is 22 rubles (or 25, if you buy the ticket from the driver) and does not depend on the number of stops. If you plan to use both metro and surface transport often, save time and money by bying a monthly pass for unlimited travel at the cashier in the metro. (Tickets and monthly passes for city buses, trolleybuses and trams are not valid for express and suburban buses – you buy your ticket from the conductor or driver, the fare depends on the distance).
Shuttle taxis (jitneys): Fare for a ride is paid to the driver such taxis stop on request.
Taxi: Fixed fares; you pay for either the distance or the time (booking is mostly free of charge); special tariffs for journeys to the airports. When going out of town you pay a double fare. You can also use private carriers, but we recommend to use officially registered taxis.
